Malaysia Airlines parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) launched its new MAB Academy facility and broke ground for a new flight simulator building
The new MAB Academy – located at Malaysia Airlines' former headquarters – was launched with the attendance of senior officials from the MAG and the Malaysian government including Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. During the event, a groundbreaking ceremony took place at the facility for the new flight simulator building.
“As an aviation group, we recognise the pivotal role skilled talents play in shaping a sustainable future for the industry,” said Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Group Managing Director, MAG. “Through strategic investments in state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive training programmes, we are dedicated to building a robust talent pipeline that serves not only our immediate needs but also contributes to the nation’s overall growth in the aviation industry.”
Among the features of the new 194,000 square foot facility include a walkway featuring Malaysia Airlines' history, an i-Learn Hub, and cabin mock-ups for in-flight services training.
The new Flight Simulator Building is scheduled to be completed during mid-2025. With six simulator bays, training will be conducted for pilots operating the airline group's aircraft such as the Airbus A330neo, Boeing 737-800, and the ATR 720-500 operated by budget subsidiary Firefly. The building will also be equipped with comprehensive facilities including a pool for safety and emergency training.
MAB Academy is an Approved Training Organization (ATO) certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and a regional training partner of IATA. The academy offers nearly 200 training courses that range from mandatory flight training, aviation services, and business. According to MAG, its clientele includes top Malaysian corporations, international airlines, and students from global universities.
